![]() He says door dash!!! He says put it on the ground. My SO goes to the door and says set it down. I look out the window and it’s clearly a male. I understand traffic and all so when it was delayed we just thought whatever except the person started back tracking towards to the store.įinally we get the message that the dasher arrived and they knock on our door. Today we had a dasher named “Sandra” the order was supposed to be delivered around 4 pm. Sometimes we do get the occasional person to knock and we’ll just talk through the door. ![]() Sometimes more if we are too lazy to go out and get coffee in the morning. My SO and I order door dash maybe 2-3 times a month. The idea that a customer should tip $2+ per mile is ludicrous, and the company should pay something to the dashers IMO. I’m willing to assume that many dashers haven’t had a job where they are reimbursed for their travel in a POV, but ~.40-.60 cents per mile is what I’ve seen. I will say I do agree that $10+ an hour is extremely high valuation for gas/wear and tear. I have worked another job that required travel, I feel I do have a good grasp on a reasonable cost of travel. Lastly, I saw another person recently post about the cost of wear and tear, repairs, gas, etc. Contrary to popular belief, I am not in fact lazy, but a new father who would PREFER not to leave the house unless I need to, but don’t mind doing so to save what seems like $20 minimum. I am, in fact, not too lazy to pick up my own food. Honestly I used it sparingly and was shocked when I came back to it after several weeks. Yes, deleting and not using the app is the best practice for someone who thinks as I do. And I agree, it’s their choice, just like it’s your choice to choose DoorDash for employment, and my choice not to use it anymore! “We’ll that’s their choice…” “they don’t have to pay for, X,y,Z”. all who bring unique and highly valuable skills to our workforce….I can assure you many of these individuals do not make $30 an hour. Think about our teachers, first responders, etc. This can be applied to a wide range of jobs, and fair wages should be something we continue to aim for as a country (however I do understand as wages rise, so will the cost of goods and services #economics). But it shouldn’t be the customer responsibility to pick up the slack. Yes, DoorDash does in fact take advantage of their drivers…no one is doubting this. I guess I’ll just follow up and give my final thoughts: Wow….there ARE a lot of opinions here, never did I imagine my salty morning rant would gain so much attention. If that were the case then everyone would be doing it! But I get the impression than many of them feel they should be making $30+ an hour….for food delivery. I know I’m generalizing and this doesn’t apply to all dashers. I would never tip a pizza delivery driver over $20, I would never tip a waiter/waitress 35% of my total order, so why should I be expected to do the same for doordash? Agree or disagree, at the end of the day those 2 jobs have much more responsibility and duties than a dasher and get paid less. I see a lot of concern over tips from the customer and while I do believe in tipping an appropriate amount, I don’t believe it’s the customer’s responsibility to make up for DoorDashs lack of pay. I’m pretty sure this will be an unpopular opinion on here as this is just a customers opinion.ĭoorDash has gone down hill in the last year or so, it used to be worth it! They tack on all most $10 in additional fees, suggest outrageous tips, and general I still wait over an hour to get food that is always within 5 miles.
